Ollie Pope seemingly survived a certain ‘leg before wicket’ against Hobart Hurricanes in match number 24 of the BBL 2024-25 season at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Batting at number four for the Adelaide Strikers, the England-based wicketkeeper-batter attempted to reverse ramp Hurricanes spinner Nikhil Chaudhary early in the innings, only to end up getting hit on his helmet instead.

While none of the Hobart Hurricanes players appealed for a potential LBW, subsequently television replays indicated that the ball would have gone on to hit the middle stump.

Adelaide Strikers’ England import Ollie Pope punched out 33 runs for his team from 27 balls after arriving to the crease in the sixth over of the innings. The cricketer made his way to the middle following the early dismissals of Strikers opener D'Arcy Short and number three Jake Weatherald.

During the earlier stages of Pope’s cautious innings, the cricketer was struck in his helmet by Hobart Hurricanes spinner Nikhil Chaudhary after he tried to reverse ramp the latter. Interestingly, the ball would have gone on to hit the middle stump, but Pope survived the moment of LBW reckoning owing to lack of interest demonstrated by the Hurricanes fielders.

As it happened, Adelaide Strikers batted first at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart and hauled 186-5 from 20 overs. Opener Chris Lynn top-scored with a blistering 27-ball 49, while captain Alex Ross chipped in with 47 from 29 balls.

Chasing 187 for a win, Hobart Hurricanes pulled off a sensational heist with eight balls and five wickets to spare. Tim David at number six smeared three boundaries and six sixes in his match-defining knock of 62 unbeaten runs from just 28 deliveries to mastermind Hurricanes’ successful chase.
