Having suffered back-to-back losses Australia square off against Sri Lanka in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Lucknow. Both teams head into the crucial encounter with losses under their belt and will look to notch up their maiden win in the ten-national competition.

Australian players displayed their clear intent from the get-go, as they were asked to field first at Ekana Stadium, where Mitchell Starc issued a stern warning to Kusal Perera about inflicting a run-out at the non-strikers end as early as the first over.

The incident took place on the fourth delivery of the fourth over, as Starc pulled away from his bowling stride and warned Perera about staying put within the crease, as there won't be a next time.

The Australian speedster did try to repeat the same in fifth over, but Perera kept his bat inside the crease.

As per MCC, it is within the law to run-out the batter at non-strikers' end if they are outside the crease, however, as a mark of sportsman spirit, bowlers often warn a player before actually doing so.

This is not the first time that Starc has warned a batter, a similar incident took place during South Africa's Boxing Day Test at MCG, when the left-arm pacer issued a caution to Theunis De Bruyn, for leaving the crease to early.

In 2020, Starc refrained from running out England's Adil Rashid in an ODI in Manchester in the 49th over.

As of writing, Perera has moved on to hit 18 off 21, while Pathum Nissanka has scored 18 off 20, helping Lanka's reach 39 for no loss in seven overs.
