In the ongoing 2nd Tri-nation ODI match between New Zealand and South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the Proteas, batting first, put 300 runs on the board after 50 overs. It is worth noting that the Proteas rested their senior stars and named a young squad for the tri-series, which led to four debutants in the ongoing match.

Talking about making their debut, Matthew Breetzke made his a memorable one and smashed 158 runs in his first match, the most by any player in the history of ODIs on their debut. Meanwhile, Jason Smith, who made his debut in September 2024, also looked in great touch and amassed 41 (51), but his brilliant knock was cut short by a brilliant fielding effort by New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner.

Santner Produces A Brilliant Effort In The Field

Notably, on the last ball of the 25th over, Smith smashed a shot past the covers and immediately left for a run. However, Santner stretched his hand and caught that bullet shot and directed a throw in a single motion towards the keeper to leave Smith stunned. Watch the wicket here.

New Zealand Off To A Strong Start In The Tri-Series

The Black Caps have gotten off to a great start in the ongoing tri-nation series as they handed hosts Pakistan a 78-runs defeat to top the table. Further, they have also restricted the Proteas to 304 runs on a great batting pitch.

Going into the first innings break, the Kiwis would be proud of their effort and look to seal a win to advance further in the tri-series. At the time of writing this article, New Zealand batters have entered the field to start the run-chase.
