Australia's World Cup 2023 campaign began on a shaky note as they squared off against the Netherlands in their first warm-up game on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram.

World Cup Warm-Ups: Logan vsn Beek cleans up Josh Inglis for a duck

The highlight of the early phase of the innings was Logan van Beek's outstanding delivery that saw Josh Inglis return to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

Opening the batting with veteran Steve Smith, Inglis was met with a challenging over from van Beek. On the third delivery of the second over, van Beek pitched one just short of a good length, a ball that seemed deceptively simple but proved fatal for Inglis.

The ball took an inward trajectory, keeping marginally lower than expected. Inglis, intending to negotiate it with a backfoot defence, was left astounded as the ball snuck beneath his bat to strike the stumps.

The early departure of Inglis brought Alex Carey to the crease, who immediately took the attack to the opposition, smashing two boundaries and a six within his first ten deliveries.

As the game progressed, Australia steadied themselves at 24/1 after four overs, with Smith and Carey at the helm. The duo will look to stabilize the Aussie innings after an early jolt stitch a big partnership and set their side on course to a huge total.

Meanwhile, Australia, having a rich history in World Cup tournaments, especially after lifting the trophy in 2015 at home and their commendable effort in 2019, which saw them reach the semis, come into the 2023 edition with high expectations.

The mix of seasoned players and emerging talents, along with their experience in the Indian conditions through the IPL, makes them a formidable contender for the title.
