Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur had a horrible start to the Women's T20 World Cup as she departed cheaply in her side's opening game against New Zealand at Dubai International Stadium. Batting at three, Harmanpreet managed only 15 runs before Rosemary Mair trapped her plumb in front of the stumps with a ripper.

The incident occurred during the sixth over of India's innings when Harmanpreet was trying to form a consolidating stand with Jemimah Rodrigues following Smriti Mandhana's dismissal. However, Rosemary Mair emerged as the saviour for the White Ferns, dismissing the Indian captain at a crucial juncture of the match.

From over the wicket, Mair bowled a full-length ball, which jagged back into Harmanpreet after pitching around the off and middle stump line. As the Indian skipper tried to whack it in the on-side, she missed it completely and got struck on her front pad. As soon as the New Zealand players appealed for an LBW, the umpire raised her finger without any hesitation.

Although Harmanpreet went upstairs and used the DRS, the TV umpire upheld the on-field call after watching the replay. So, Harmanpreet had to make her way back to the dugout, leaving India reeling at 42 for three.
