During Match 20 of the Big Bash League 2023-24 on Sunday, Melbourne Stars' captain Glenn Maxwell turned the tide with his exceptional bowling performance against Adelaide Strikers at the Adelaide Oval.

Maxwell's twin strike swings momentum for Stars in BBL clash

Maxwell's smart bowling in critical moments of the game played a big role in containing the Strikers' aggressive batting lineup, which was relentlessly smashing the opponent bowlers.

The turning point came in the 13th over, bowled by Maxwell, when he dismissed the in-form Strikers' opener and captain, Matthew Short. Short, who was at his destructive best, scoring 56 off 31 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, fell prey to Maxwell's cunning bowling.

He attempted to slog a full-length delivery outside off stump, only to be caught at deep mid-wicket by Beau Webster. This dismissal was crucial, as Short was set for a big finish in the innings.

Maxwell's impact did not end there. Returning to the bowl in the 16th over, he claimed another significant wicket, that of Adam Hose. Hose, trying to reverse sweep, misjudged the ball and edged it to Joel Paris at short fine leg. This wicket further dented the Strikers' momentum. Over his three overs, Maxwell proved economical and effective, conceding just 21 runs and taking two important wickets.

At the time of writing this article, Adelaide Strikers were positioned at 164/3 after 16 overs. Despite the setbacks, Chris Lynn provided some resistance, hammering 62 runs off just 29 deliveries. The Melbourne Stars, however, will aim to claim the 'big fish' Lynn and limit the Strikers to a manageable total under 200.
