Deandra Dottin's runout dismissal in WBBL final [Source: @WBBL/X]
West Indies' legendary all-rounder Deandra Dottin had a forgettable outing in the ongoing Women's Big Bash League final between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat. Coming at number four, Dottin departed without facing a ball following her bizarre runout dismissal in the all-important clash.
The incident occurred during the fifth over of the Renegades' innings when Deandra Dottin had just joined the middle following captain Sophie Molineux's dismissal. However, before she could open her account, the talismanic cricketer was run out in a bizarre fashion.
From over the wicket, Brisbane Heat's Lucy Hamilton bowled a full-length delivery, which Hayley Matthews played gently in the leg side. As soon as the fielder at short mid-wicket missed the ball, the batters ran for an easy single.
Experienced all-rounder Jess Jonassen picked the ball up and threw it towards the striker's end. Dottin had more than enough time to reach her end, but, thanks to her casual running, she couldn't make it before the wicketkeeper collected the ball. Also, her bat got stuck in the ground at the very last moment when she was trying to complete the run.
Thus, before she could make her ground, Brisbane Heat's wicketkeeper dislodged the bails, leading to her dismissal.
Renegades Lose Four Wickets As Stalenberg Joins Matthews
After Dottin's casual dismissal, Georgia Wareham contributed crucial 21 runs to the Renegades' tally. She was dismissed by Grace Parsons, and Naomi Stalenberg joined the in-form Hayley Matthews in the middle. At the time of writing, Melbourne Renegades Women were 108 for four, with Matthews and Stalenberg batting on 49* and 15*, respectively.
