Often flying under the radar despite being a key component for the spirited Afghanistan side at the ICC World Cup 2023, Azmatullah Omarzai on Tuesday (November 6) dispatched Aussie left-arm quick Mitchell Starc for one of the most spectacular sixes of the tournament in Mumbai.

Facing Starc's attempted yorker from around-the-wicket angle, Omarzai smashed the experienced Australian match-winner for a scintillating maximum over the long-off region, unveiling an aesthetic downswing and extension of the lofted cover drive.

With the ball coming in from wide of the angle, intended to sneak past his defence via an inswinging yorker, Omarzai, who was new to the crease and yet to open his account, made an extravagant entry into the score books with a truly exceptional hit that travelled the distance after finding the sweet spot.

The youngster sent a strong message across to the opposition camp by smashing their ace speedster for a breathtaking six when they would've been hoping to build further inroads into the Afghanistan batting line-up, having just dismissed Hashmatullah Shahidi to reduce them to 173/3 during the 38th over.

Omarzai's Special Maximum Off Starc At Wankhede

Once it found the optimum connection, the delivery from Starc flew through the air at the iconic Wankhede Stadium and gave Omarzai the desired maximum to get on the board after facing two earlier balls for duck.

The seamer would've been hoping to apply stranglehold and pressure on the Afghanistan allrounder after his fresh arrival to the crease but was treated with absolute disdain by Omarzai, who showed no fear in executing the most perfect lofted cover drive in the crucial game in Mumbai.

Omarzai has been an understated figure in Afghanistan's inspirational run in the marquee competition, with the Asian giantkillers defeating England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands to stand one win away from securing a maiden World Cup semifinal slot.

The key allround cricketer has made 255 runs in the tournament from his seven innings at a terrific strike-rate of 101.59 while also contributing five crucial breakthroughs for the Shahidi-led Afghan side.
