In the ongoing 2nd Test between Sri Lanka and Australia at the Galle International Stadium, day 3 has been emotional for the Sri Lankan fans as Dimuth Karunaratne batted for the last time in international colours. The 36-year-old had announced that he would retire from cricket after the 2nd Test.
On play on day 3, Karunaratne failed to make a mark on his final innings and returned to the pavilion with a low score of 14 (28), which featured a solitary four. On the 1st ball of the 13th over, Matthew Kuhnemann got rid of the star Lanka batter.
Australia Honour Karunaratne's Legacy
The dismissal was followed up with emotional scenes as Australian stars queued up to pay tribute to Karunaratne's legacy and gave him a round of applause for his career. Dimuth Karunaratne's Career
In his farewell match, Dimuth Karunaratne couldn't do much as he missed out on a fifty in the first innings and scored 36 (83). Overall, Karunaratne has had a great career. It is worth noting that Dimuth's farewell match is also his 100th Test appearance for Sri Lanka, becoming the 7th Island Nation cricketer to do so.
Shedding light on his career, Dimuth has 7222 Test runs, averaging 39, which features 16 centuries. Talking about the match, at the time of writing this article, Sri Lanka trail by 80 runs and have seven wickets in hand.
