Pakistan's stand-in captain Agha Salman sustained his rough patch in T20I cricket, as he failed to convert his start into a significant score in the final dead-rubber of the ongoing three-match series against Zimbabwe. Coming at number four, Salman struck a run-a-ball 32 before a terrible mixup with Arafat Minhas resulted in his runout dismissal.
The incident occurred during the 15th over of Pakistan's innings when Salman was trying to steady the ship along with Minhas following Qasim Akram's departure. However, Mohammad Rizwan's deputy couldn't succeed in his attempt, with a lack of communication leading to his disastrous dismissal.
From around the wicket, Zimbabwe's premier all-rounder Sikandar Raza bowled a full-length delivery, prompting Minhas to play a drive. The left-handed batter pushed the ball with soft hands off his front foot and called his captain for a quick single.
Although Agha Salman initially obliged to his partner's call, it took him quite a while to realise that he was running towards the danger end. As the fielder at cover picked the ball up, the all-rounder decided against the run and tried to return to the non-striker's end. However, Minhas was the quicker of the two, reaching the non-striker's end before the skipper.
In between all this on-field harakiri, Zimbabwe's wicketkeeper had ample time to collect the slightly wayward throw and dislodge the bails. He made no mistake, sending Salman packing for 32.
Disciplined Zimbabwe Reduce Pakistan To Six Down
Riding on bowlers' excellent performance, Zimbabwe have reduced Pakistan to six for 112 in 18 overs. At the time of writing, Arafat Minhas and Abbas Afridi were batting on 14* and 10*, respectively.
