Adam Zampa grabs a stunning catch [Source: @7Cricket/X.com]
The second ODI between Sri Lanka and Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on February 14 had a dramatic moment when Adam Zampa pulled off a stunning yet nerve-wracking catch. His brilliance in the field sent Sri Lanka's Nishan Madushka back to the pavilion after scoring 51 runs.
The incident took place during the 25th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when Ben Dwarshuis bowled a short-pitched delivery that banged hard into the surface and angled in. Madushka attempted a hook shot, but the ball took a top edge and flew toward Adam Zampa at deep fine leg.
Zampa grabbed the catch right at the edge of the boundary, but what happened next nearly cost Australia a crucial wicket. As he caught the ball, he quickly tossed it into the air to avoid stepping over the boundary rope. His foot, however, made contact with the boundary cushion just as he completed the catch.
The on-field umpires weren’t sure and called for a TV review. After thorough checking, the third umpire confirmed it was a clean catch, and Madushka was given out. It was a moment of relief for Zampa and Australia, as the dismissal broke a strong 98-run partnership between Madushka and Kusal Mendis.
Sri Lanka Looking To Build A Solid Total
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first. However, their start wasn’t ideal as Aaron Hardie struck early, dismissing Pathum Nissanka for just 6 runs off 20 balls. Despite the early setback, Madushka and Mendis worked hard to stabilise the innings before Zampa's effort ended their stand.
At the time of writing, Sri Lanka are at 125 for 3 in 29 overs, looking to put up a competitive total on the board.
