In an unfortunate turn of events, New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out of the tri-series final against Pakistan. The match is set to take place at the National Stadium in Karachi on Friday, February 14. Ravindra is still recovering from a head injury he sustained during the first match against Pakistan.

Ravindra got injured in a freak accident while fielding in the 38th over of Pakistan’s innings. Positioned at deep square leg, he attempted to catch a high sweep shot from Khushdil Shah but misjudged it. The ball struck him directly on the forehead, causing heavy bleeding near his eye. He was immediately taken off the field, with the team physio rushing to his aid.

Gary Stead Gives Update on Rachin Ravindra

New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, provided an update on Ravindra’s health. He mentioned that the young cricketer had been dealing with headaches for a few days due to the impact of the blow. Even though Ravindra returned to the nets on Thursday, he has not fully recovered yet. The team is closely monitoring his progress and following concussion protocols.

“He’s had a headache for a few days, but that’s subsiding, which is really good news. He hit a few balls tonight for the first time, which is good, but there are still a few more steps for him to go through before he can be considered fit for play,” he said.

Lockie Ferguson’s Fitness Update

On a positive note, New Zealand received good news regarding fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. The right-arm pacer has recovered from a hamstring injury he suffered while playing in the ILT20 2025. Ferguson has been out of the ODI format for 15 months, but he is now close to making his return.

The tri-series final against Pakistan will be New Zealand’s last match before the Champions Trophy 2025. The Kiwis will face Pakistan again in the tournament opener on February 19.
