Dindigul Dragons – 122/4 in 14.5 overs [Shivam Singh 46 (30), Baba Indrajith 22 (23); T Natarajan 1/15 (3), Ragupathy Silambarasan 1/16 (3)] beat Ba11sy Trichy – 120 all out in 19.1 overs [Ganga Sridhar Raju 48 (41), R Rajkumar 39 (22); Varun Chakravarthy 3/21 (4), Suboth Bhati 2/8 (3.1)] by six wickets.

Dindigul Dragons registered a comprehensive victory over first-timers Ba11sy Trichy in match number four of the ongoing TNPL 2023 season. The Dragons, led by Ravichandran Ashwin, outplayed Trichy in all departments, and sealed a relatively easy run-chase with more than five overs to spare.

Chakravarthy wrecks Trichy before Raju, Rajkumar consolidate innings

Ba11sy Trichy skipper Ganga Sridhar Raju won the toss and opted to bat first. The opener stayed defiant at the top, despite constantly losing partners at the other end. Including his opening partner Jafar Jamal, five of the subsequent six batters failed to reach the double digits, with Akshay Srinivasan and Antony Dhas falling for ducks to reduce Trichy to a mere 49-6 at one stage.

Thereafter, captain Raju formed a rebellious 65-run partnership with all-rounder R Rajkumar, who bludgeoned a 22-ball 39 in the death overs. Meanwhile, Raju himself top-scored in the innings with his calculated 48. The two cricketers alone accounted for nearly 75 percent of the team’s total, as the rest of the batters failed to face out 20 overs only to be dusted out for 120.

Among the Dragons bowlers, captain Ravichandran Ashwin claimed two wickets including that of his opposite number. IPL cult hero and Indian international Varun Chakravarthy inflicted the most damage with his three-fer, while pacer Suboth Bhati polished off the tail with two wickets in the end.

Bhati blasts 19*, Singh slams 46 as Dragons hunt down target with ease

Trichy’s senior speedster T Natarajan gifted his side an early breakthrough by dismissing Dindigul Dragons opener Vimal Khumar for a duck. Thereafter, the Dragons barely offered the newcomers any respite as they scythed through their target with more than five overs to spare.

Shivam Singh top-scored in the run-chase with a 30-ball 46, while wicketkeeper Baba Indrajith tactically kept the scoreboard moving with his near run-a-ball 22.

Adithya Ganesh listed a similar 20* before Suboth Bhati blasted an 8-ball 19* to conclude the proceedings.

The result opens up Dragons account on the TNPL 2023 points table, as they occupy fourth spot on the eight-team ladder.
