India managed to narrowly escape the follow-on after a dogged resistance from their lower order. Bad light brought an early end to the days play with  leaving them trailing by 193 runs.

With India precariously placed at 234/9, it seemed as though the follow-on was a mere formality. However, a determined partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep  denied the Australians the satisfaction of enforcing the follow-on.
