It turned out to be a glorious day for the English side, who claimed a resounding victory over South Africa by a mammoth margin of 342 runs in the third ODI at Rose Bowl in Southampton. Batting first, England smashed a massive 414, following which they bowled South Africa out for just a paltry 72 to win comfortably.

Here, we take a look at the highlights of the third ODI between England and South Africa, as it panned out at the Bowl in Southampton on Sunday, September 7.

Joe Root, Jacob Bethell Lead England To Record Total In Southampton

In the third ODI of the series, the South African side won the toss and put the English into bat, as openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett had a decent partnership scoring 59 for the first wicket, where Smith scored a fantastic 62 off 48 deliveries, and was well supported by Duckett with his 31.

Following this, the duo of Joe Root and Jacob Bethell took the honours, as they forged a partnership worth remembering, taking England to a massive total, where the duo combined to score 182 runs for the third wicket. Root consumed only 96 deliveries for his century, while Bethell was magnificent, scoring 110 off just 82 deliveries with 13 boundaries and three maximums.

In the end, it was Jos Buttler's carnage, who scored 62 not out off 32 balls, while Will Jacks played a handy cameo of 19 not out off eight balls, taking England to a mammoth score of 414 by the end of their 50 overs, where they only lost five wickets. Corbin Bosch and Keshav Maharaj only claimed two wickets apiece, while all the bowlers proved to be highly expensive in their spells.

Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid Run Through South African Batting Order

Chasing a daunting 415 for victory, South Africa showed their cards early as they didn't have any answer to the rapid pace of Jofra Archer. Already down with the injury to skipper Temba Bavuma, who couldn't come out to bat, South Africa lost their first five wickets for just 18 runs, as Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickleton, Matthew Breetzke, and Tristan Stubbs all became victims to the daunting pace of Jofra Archer, who claimed four wickets in his spell, giving away just 18 runs.

Brydon Carse was excellent too, where he claimed two wickets of Wiaan Mulder and Dewald Brevis, as Adil Rashid was again brilliant in his 3.5 overs, giving away 13 runs as he registered the wickets of Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, and Cody Yusuf, helping England bowl South Africa out for a paltry 72 in just 20.5 overs, as the home side England managed a victory by a margin of 342 runs in the third ODI of this series in Southampton.

The game, which looked largely out of hand for South Africa, stayed away from them as England shocked the Proteas side, who couldn't have had any answer to the English lineup. Despite the victory, South Africa claimed the ODI series 2-1 after being ruthless in the first two games of this series.
