England and South Africa are up against each other in the third ODI at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. The Proteas have already won the series and are looking for a whitewash, but England have put together a strong batting performance in the first half.
England Show Their Prowess With Dominant Batting Show
They have scored 414 in their allotted 50 overs, and it is the first time the English boys have managed to cross the 400-run mark against South Africa. In the process, they have now crossed that magical figure of 400 seven times in ODI cricket and have equalled India. However, South Africa is still ahead of them in that list with eight scores of 400-plus in ODI history.
Australia have done it two times, but England, despite failures in the series so far, have shown in the third ODI how dangerous they can be. England got to this massive score on the back of twin centuries from young Jacob Bethell and Joe Root.
Bethell scored his maiden ton in just 76 balls while Jos Buttler delivered finishing touches with a fantastic 62 off just 32 balls. Will Jacks also played a handy cameo of 19, and South Africa have conceded a score of over 400 for the fourth time in ODIs.
Most 400+ Innings Totals in ODIs:
- 8 - South Africa
- 7 - India
- 7 - England
- 2 - Australia
Nandre Burger conceded 95 runs in his 10 overs, which is the highest for a bowler at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. It is also the highest ODI score at the ground and South Africa now would have to repeat what they did back in 2006 against Australia by chasing down the first-ever 400-plus score in ODIs.
