Chennai Super Kings seamer Deepak Chahar revealed that MS Dhoni's advice to focus on swinging the ball than pace worked wonders for him against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday night.

Chahar provided CSK the ideal start to their defense of 168 as he dismissed DC skipper David Warner on the very first delivery of the innings.

He then proceeded to knock over the dangerous-looking Phil Salt for an 11-ball 17, ensuring that CSK won the powerplay fair and square.

Chahar finished with figures of 2/28 in 3 overs, and he was happy that he could contribute to his teams' cause in what he termed as a very crucial powerplay.

He also said that the wicket getting slower in the second half was the precise reason behind Dhoni opting to bat first.

Here's what Deepak Chahar said:

"It was swinging nicely and at the same time, the pitch was slow. I had a chat with Mahi bhai, when the wickets are getting slower, you don't need to bowl fast, bowl slow and swing it, it's difficult for the batters to get the boundaries in the powerplay, he said. We thought the wicket would slow down in the 2nd innings and it was cloudy, so no dew - that's why Mahi bhai decided to bat first. 165 was a par score on this track. Powerplay was crucial as the ball comes nicely and we had a great powerplay,"

Chahar also admitted that its always tough to deal with constant injuries, something he has been plagued with throughout his career. He added that he is still not 100% but is trying to do as much as he can for his team.

"It is very difficult with injuries, every time you get injured you start from zero. Still not 100% but trying to do a job to contribute to the team."

CSK will next face the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk on May 14.
