After bagging the T20I series by 1-0, India have got a great start in the ODIs against New Zealand, posting a challenging total in the first match in Auckland. The Indian openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill, stitched a brilliant 124-run stand for the first wicket, paving the way for a healthy first-inning score for the visitors.

In this process, the dynamic duo set the record for the highest opening partnership in an ODI between the two teams in Auckland. Gill and Dhawan surpassed the 93-run stand between Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls in 2020 to attain the landmark.

Highest opening stands in an IND vs NZ ODI in Auckland

  • Shikhar Dhawan - Shubman Gill: 124 in 2022
  • Martin Guptill - Henry Nicholls: 93 in 2020
  • Glenn Turner - Graham Edwards: 71 in 1976
  • Sourav Ganguly - Virender Sehwag: 70 in 2003
  • Shikhar Dhawan - Rohit Sharma: 64 in 2014

Regarding the match, a collective batting effort propelled India to a solid total of 306 in 50 overs. However, cricket pundits considered it a below-par total, considering the boundary dimensions of the venue. As of writing, New Zealand are 34 for no loss in seven overs.
