Paarl Royals prevailed by five wickets over Pretoria Capitals in Match 18 of the SA20 2023 on Sunday at Boland Park.

Capitals post a competitive total

Batting first, the Capitals lost their key batter Will Jacks (5) early. However, the pair of Kusal Mendis and Theunis de Bruyn were impressive with their strokeplay to put the team in good stead.

The duo added 52 runs for the second wicket, before Mendis (37) was dismissed by Tabraiz Shamsi. Thereafter, Rilee Rossouw (19) could not convert his starts, while Shane Dadswell (0) disappointed.

In the end, Bruyn (53) and James Neesham (21*) accelerated and helped Capitals to post 158 on the board. Ferisco Adams was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets for the Royals.

Combined effort helps Royals get back to winning ways

In reply, Royals got off to a good start with Jason Roy (21) and Wihan Lubbe (29). Their 48-run partnership helped the team to get a stable platform.

Then, the experienced opening pair of Jos Buttler (37) and Dane Vilas (24) continued the team's momentum. Arriving at number five, skipper David Miller produced a sensational knock of 28* off 14 balls to chase down the total with two balls to spare.

Will Jacks emerged as the best bowler for the Capitals in a losing cause.
