Rohit Sharma Opts For Shivam Dube Over Riyan Parag As Sri Lanka Bat First In 1st ODI

Charith Asalanka has won an important toss in the first ODI against Rohit Sharma-led India at the R. Premadasa Stadium and has decided to bat first. The Lankan captain said that the pitch is on the drier side and so the batting first would surely be an advantage for the home side. Mohamed Shiraz is making debut for Sri Lanka.

India, on the other hand, have gone with tried and tested KL Rahul as their wicketkeeper over Rishabh Pant. Shivam Dube is also playing an ODI game after five long years. India are going with three spinners, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav and two of those are all-rounders. So, India have only four pure batters in their team with two frontline seamers.

It is also the first game for Charith Asalanka as the ODI captain, and he would be hoping that he leads from the front with the bat, and the middle order fires in this game, something which they could no do in the T20I series.
