Riyan Parag, on Friday (October 27), achieved a spectacular record, becoming the first player in the history of T20 cricket to score six consecutive half-centuries.

The childhood prodigy, part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), continued his magnificent run for Assam in the critical group stage encounter of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament

Facing Kerala in India's national T20 championship at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, Parag smashed the Group B table-toppers for a superlative innings of 57 not out in just 33 deliveries. The Assam skipper led his troops from the front and took them home in a thrilling encounter.

Striving to overhaul Kerala's 127/8, Assam found themselves in a deep hole after a middle-order collapse but were bailed out of the jail by their captain who brought his experience and undoubted ability to the fore to pull off a two-wicket triumph.

As Parag reached his fifty, he aced a special landmark in his young and promising career with the bat, recording what was a sixth half-century on the bounce - something no other player in T20 history had managed to achieve until Assam's brightest young turk did.

Parag began his excellent run of fifties via Assam's opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 versus Bihar. He made 61 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai while also producing figures of 2/25 with his part-time spin bowling to once again underline his allround prowess.

The youngster backed it up with exceptional knocks of 76*, 53*, 76 and 72 against Services, Sikkim, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, respectively, before smashing the Kerala attack for another valiant half-century to help Assam pull off an impressive win.

Parag has been in tremendous form since the beginning of the ongoing Indian domestic season earlier this year in June and is building on his gains in either skill with each opportunity. Apart from blasting 440 runs at a strike rate of 192.98, he has also taken nine wickets with a terrific economy rate of 7.14 in the ongoing tournament.
