In a surprising turn of events, Rishabh Pant has walked out to bat on the second Day of the fourth Test between India and England at Manchester. This comes after he suffered an injury and a metatarsal fracture was detected on his right toe ruling him out of the series.
However, after the dismissal of Shardul Thakur on Day 2, surprsing the world and the spectators present, the Indian wicketkeeper walked out to bat. India were stationed at 314/6, when the star walked out bat while limping on one leg.
Pant Rubbishes All Speculations
From the morning of the second day in the fourth Test of the India vs England series, reports were rife that Pant would not be playing any further part in the series. The reports suggest that Pant has suffered a metatarsal fracture and will have to rest for the next six weeks.
Along with this report, there were speculations too that Rishabh Pant might take painkillers and bat for India. Another important thing was that, as this was not a concussion injury, India would not be allowed to substitute. If Pant did not bat, India would have only nine wickets.
How Was Pant Injured And What Is His Importance For India?
Rishabh Pant was injured on Day 1. He was batting on 37 when he tried to play a reverse scoop of Chris Woakes' bowling. However, all he managed was an inside edge on his right toe.
Immediately after this, Pant was seen writhing with discomfort and had to be carted off the ground. Considering the seriousness of the injury, it never looked like Pant would be back batting in this series, let alone the match.
With his bold batting attitude and aggressive style of play, Pant plays a significant role in India's position in the game. The decision of the star to walk in to bat shows his love for the game and also his mentality to fight for his nation.
