Shan Masood has won an important toss in the first Test of three-match series between Pakistan and England and has decided to bat first. England are without their regular skipper Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope is leading the visitors. Brydon Carse is also set for his Test while Pakistan have Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah back in the XI along with bowling all-rounder Aamir Jamal.
There is a tinge of grass on the pitch and the seamers might get some help in the first session. However, conditions are expeced to be good for batting for the initial three days and then the spinners are likely to do the bulk of the work. England have two frontline spinners - Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir in the squad while Pakistan have Abrar Ahmed as a designated spinner with Agha Salman set to chip in with his tweakers.

Opening Session Crucial For Both Teams
Both the captains wanted to bat first at the toss, but Pakistan have struggled lately, and they would need their top order to take more responsibility in this Test. For England, it is crucial that they use the moisture with the new ball and it would be interesting to see how their young bowling attack go about their business in the subcontinent conditions. So, with two quality teams going head-to-head, expect some classic Test cricket over the course of next few days.
