The first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, witnessed Australia fall apart on Day 1 after electing to bat first.

As expected, the pitch offered assistance to the spinners, and the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took advantage, picking up eight wickets between them.

Rohit Sharma, during his time in the middle on Day 1, displayed that there were no such demons on the track, and the Australian batters were outwitted by Indian bowlers.

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting believes that producing turning tracks is India's best way to defeat Australia, and that playing the visitors playing two off-spinners played into the hands of the hosts.

Speaking to ICC, the former three-time World Cup-winning player revealed the main difference between India and Australia.

Here's what Ponting said

"The only difference I guess with somewhere like India to Australia is, I know in Australia the players actually have no say over how the wickets are prepared at all.

Unless things have changed the last couple of years, when I was playing, and certainly after I'd finished, the captains or anyone from CA never even spoke to the groundsmen. You just left it up to the groundsmen to prepare the best wicket that they could,"

As of writing on Day 2, India are 91 for 1, trailing Australia by 68 runs, with Rohit Sharma and Ashwin batting on 60 and 10, respectively.
