The Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand has commenced with the first match ending with a win for the Kiwis. The second match of the Test series will be held at the Basin Reserve Cricket Ground in Wellington, this Friday (March 17). The two teams had a worthwhile contest in the 1st Test. Although the hosts churned out match-winning performances, the Lankans gave quite the fight.

New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell was crowned the 'Player of the Match' after scoring 102 and 81 in the 1st and the 2nd innings, respectively, as well as taking 5 wickets. The team will be riding high on confidence after a great batting performance in the first match. Fast bowler Blair Tickner also scalped 4 wickets while Matt Henry bowled out three Lankan batters. Kane Williamson's unbeaten century was the cherry on top as it hurtled NZ over the rope and drove the team to a last-ball two-wicket victory.

The visitors proved to be strong competitors as they match went down to the wire. Veteran batter Angelo Mathews was a danger at the crease as he scored 115 in the 2nd innings. Batter Dimuth Karunaratne was also a pick of the batters as he scored a half century off 87 deliveries. Veteran Kusal Mendis has also been contributing with the bat as he scored 87 off 83 runs in the first innings.
