Punjab Kings (PBKS) are all set to play their opening match of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mohali on Saturday, April 1. However, the looming specter of rainfall has created an aura of uncertainty and unpredictability around the upcoming high-octane clash.

The meteorological reports predict that the northern region of India, where the match is scheduled to take place, is expected to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The weather reports indicate a 80 percent probability of precipitation during the afternoon in Mohali, thereby foreshadowing an inevitable interruption in the exciting match.

In the meantime, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) is taking every possible step to prepare for any situation and has employed a team of experienced groundsmen to manage the ground. Additionally, they have also installed top-of-the-line drainage facilities to cope with the wet conditions that are expected due to the rainfall.

Meanwhile, it is a disappointing situation for the Kings, who are anticipating a promising start to their campaign under the new captaincy of veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan and the coaching of World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss. The team management had invested considerable resources in strengthening their squad by bringing in high-profile players like Sam Curran, the most expensive cricketer in the IPL's history.

However, the inclement weather conditions could cast a dark shadow on their aspirations, particularly considering the team's dismal performance in the previous edition of the IPL. They had failed to make it to the playoffs for the last eight seasons and are hoping for a change of fortunes with the new leadership and coaching.
