Chennai Super Kings secured their first victory in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) by 12 runs after a thrilling match against Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday. The match saw CSK's batters and spinners put in a strong performance to help the team get off the mark in the tournament.

After setting a massive target of 218, CSK's pacers had a tough time in the Powerplay, as Lucknow Super Giants bludgeoned them for 80 runs in the first six overs. However, the introduction of spinners Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner proved to be a game-changer, as they took control of the match.

Santner's performance was exceptional, as he bowled economically and picked up the crucial wicket of Deepak Hooda, helping CSK restrict Lucknow to a 12-run loss. In the post-match presentation, Santner spoke about his experience bowling alongside Moeen Ali and playing in front of the passionate CSK fans.

The Kiwi all-rounder was pleased with his team's efforts to restrict Lucknow and believed that Moeen's contribution helped make the difference. He stated that he was accustomed to playing on one side of the block in New Zealand and he considers it an honour to play any game, always striving to perform at his best.

“Our job was to try and tie it up a little bit through the middle. It's always nice when Moeen takes a couple of wickets. On this wicket, it makes it easier with the boundary dimensions. I'm kinda used to that playing in New Zealand, we tend to play on one side of the block. It's a privilege to play any game, so I try to do my best,” said Santner.

Santner was delighted to return to the Chepauk stadium, where he had fond memories from 2019. He appreciated the boisterous support from the fans dressed in yellow and considered it an honour to play in front of them.

“It was awesome (to be back), had fond memories back in 2019. Nice to play in front of all these people tonight, they make it pretty loud. Sea of yellow, it's a privilege to play in front of them,” concluded the CSK star."

Meanwhile, the Men in Yellow will face their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians, in their upcoming away game on Saturday, April 8 at the Wankhede Stadium
