The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to commence on Saturday, as the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Eden Gardens. KKR will start as the firm favourites as they defeated the Royal Challengers in both the encounters last season.
However, the game could be in jeopardy as rain is likely to play spoilsport in the riveting battle. The fans certainly don't want the first match of the season to be ruined by rain and here is the latest weather report from Kolkata.
Kolkata weather updates: Will rain play spoilsport?
Kolkata weather (Accuweather)
As per Accuweather, it is raining currently in Kolkata and there are 90 percent chances of rain as the game could be in jeopardy at the Eden Gardens.
The temperature will be around 30 degrees celsius, but there will be a 98 percent of cloud covers and it won't be a good sign as fans are eagerly waiting for the contest.
As per the weather department, an Orange Alert has also been issued in Kolkata, which could be a danger sign as well. Hence, the probability of match taking place could be thin.
The rain stopped closer to the match as the opening ceremony started on time and the match is also expected to start on time.
Two new captains take over the mantle for RCB and KKR
Both RCB and KKR will start the new season with fresh energy as the teams have new captains. KKR let go off their title winning captain, Shreyas Iyer and appointed Ajinkya Rahane as the leader of the team.
RCB, did the same thing as Faf du Plessis was released and new poster boy, Rajat Patidar became the Royal Challengers' new captain for the 2025 season.
