Kandy Falcons maintain their dominance at top with a close victory over Jaffna Kings

Kandy Falcons secured a 10-run victory over Jaffna Kings in Match 13 of the Lanka Premier League 2022 on Wednesday at Pallekele. 

Fletcher, Allen power Falcons to a competitive total 

Batting first, Falcons got off to a positive start with Pathum Nissanka (15) and Andre Fletcher adding 35 runs for the first wicket. 

Afterwards, Kings secured quick breakthroughs in form of Kamindu Mendis (11), Fletcher (35) and Carlos Brathwaite (0). In fact, Najibullah Zadran (0) and Wanindu Hasaranga (7) could not contribute much as well. 


It was the composed effort from Ashen Bandara (24 off 24) and the terrific ball-striking of Fabian Allen (47* off 23) which paved way for Falcons to a total of 160. 

Carlos Brathwaite skittles Kings line-up

Kings got off to a bad start, as they lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz (4) in the first over off Isuru Udana, while Dhananjaya de Silva (0) was dismissed by Carlos Brathwaite in the following over.

Thereafter, Avishka Fernando (33) and Sadeera Samarawickrama added 58 runs for the second wicket to put the team in a good stead. However, Wanindu Hasaranga sent Kings most experienced batter Shoaib Malik (8) back into the hut. 

Brathwaite continued his blistering wicket-taking form to take three wickets in a span of two overs. After Samarawickrama (48) was dismissed, Kings ultimately fell short by five runs and Falcons maintained their pole position in the table.
