Rohit Sharma during IPL 2023 vs SRH (IPLT20.com)
Two of the franchises who suffered defeats in their IPL 2024 openers in heartbreaking manners, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, will go face-to-face on Wednesday (March 27) in Match 8 of the ongoing edition at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
This will be the first home match for the Pat Cummins-led side, who fought hard at Eden Gardens against KKR, but failed to go past the finishing line by a whisker.
SRH Vs MI: Team Previews
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Cummins made a shocking decision against KKR, benching his most trusted warrior, Travis Head, and playing Marco Jansen instead. While Jansen had a disastrous outing, conceding 40 runs off his three overs without taking any wickets, there is little chance of Travis Head coming back straightaway in the following fixture, particularly because both Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma, the SRH openers, batted decently in their previous game.

SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen, who had a breakthrough season in IPL last year, lit up with a fiery 29-ball 63 knock, which only had eight mammoth sixes and not a single four. Even Aiden Markram, who had a torrid season last time, got the start, bringing smiles to the Orange Army.
Hence, unless there is any change in impact substitutions, SRH are unlikely to tweak their playing XI despite a defeat in Kolkata.
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai, led by heavily criticised Hardik Pandya, were on the front foot in the major phases of their match against Gujarat Titans. Yet, they failed to get the job done, courtesy of a few controversial decisions, including Hardik demoting himself as low as No. 7.

Similar to SRH, Mumbai too are unlikely to make any changes to their lineup. If they do, Hardik & Co. might bring in Akash Madhwal in place of either Shams Mulani or Piyush Chawla.
The best parts for MI against the Titans were how flamboyantly Rohit batted after a long time in the competition. To make matters worse for the opposition, Gerald Coetzee, whose aggression reminds fans of one of the all-time greats, Dale Steyn, had a blistering start in his IPL debut, returning excellent figures of 2/27.
Even Jasprit Bumrah, IPL’s Mr. consistent with the ball, was at his very best, taking 3/14 off his four overs.

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium Hyderabad Pitch Report
Hyderabad has always been a high-scoring venue, with an average run per over standing at 8.01. However, teams tend to score more runs while batting first at this venue than while batting second. The successful chase here is only 160, and incidentally, Mumbai achieved the feat against SRH in 2014.

SRH Vs MI: Winner Prediction
Given the fact that SRH look more solid on paper, and MI are plagued with injuries at this point, don’t be surprised if Mumbai, placed at third-bottom on the points table, suffer back-to-back defeats to kick things off under the leadership of Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024.
