Bangladesh cricket has been dealt a big blow ahead of their upcoming series against Afghanistan. Star wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is unlikely to take part in the three-match T20I series in the UAE due to a back injury.

The 30-year-old has been in good form recently, but team officials say he will need at least three weeks to fully recover. The injury already kept him out of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup Super Four matches against India and Pakistan, both of which the team lost.

Litton Das doubtful for Afghanistan series

His back strain was first noticed during a practice session at the ICC Academy Ground on September 22, when he felt pain on the left side of his waist while playing a shot. After assessment from team physio Bayzid ul Islam, he was immediately pulled from training and later ruled out of the tournament.

"I think he will need at least three weeks to recover so chances are slim of seeing him (Litton) during the series against Afghanistan," an official told Cricbuzz.

Notably, in Asia Cup 2025, Litton showed his value with the bat, scoring 119 runs in four innings at an average of 29.75 and a strike rate of 129.35. Losing him now will be a major setback for Bangladesh, especially as they try to bounce back from their Asia Cup disappointment.

Bangladesh’s series against Afghanistan will feature three ODIs and three T20Is, beginning on October 2 in Sharjah. The T20Is will be played on October 2, 3, and 5, with all matches starting at 9 PM Bangladesh time.

For now, Jaker Ali, who stepped in during the Asia Cup matches against India and Pakistan, is expected to continue behind the stumps unless the selectors decide otherwise. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has not yet announced the squad for Afghanistan series, but the players are scheduled to resume training on September 29.
