In a significant development, New Zealand have won the toss and elected to bat first in the final Test match of the ongoing three-match series against India at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

During the toss, the Blackcaps' captain Tom Latham explained that his side would bat first, considering the playing conditions in Mumbai.

"We will bat first. Looks a good surface. Hopefully, we can put some runs on the board. Focusing on this Test. We did well in Benglauru and Pune. But now the focus is on this one. Test Cricket is a funny game. We did not play badly against Sri Lanka. We have tried to keep things simple and play our brand of cricket. Regardless of wether you are batting first or bowling first, you have to play well. Sodhi and Henry come in for Southee and Santner. Santner has a side strain," Latham stated.

Bumrah Misses Out, Siraj Comes In

Meanwhile, India have made a solitary change to their playing XI from the last game, with Mohammed Siraj replacing Jasprit Bumrah, who misses out. Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the hosts would've bowled first had they won the toss, saying,

"We would have batted as well. Yeah absolutely, we understand we haven't played well. But again gives us another opportunity to come back and looks a good wicket. Hopefully, we can restrict them to as low as possible and then do well with the bat. Right now our focus is on this Test match. On the back of the mind you need to keep in mind about that (WTC), but right now we need to play our best cricket which we haven't this series. Unfortunately, Bumrah is not well and Siraj comes in place of him."
