The second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy is over and once again it has taken three days for India to emerge victorious. Things ran in fast-forward mode on Day three of the Test.

In the first session of Day 3, the duo of Jadeja and Ashwin demolished the Australian batting order. The session ended with India at 14 for 1 in a chase of 115 runs.

Rohit Sharma gets India off to a flier

From the very beginning of session two, the Indians were looking to bat with intent and get done with the business as soon as possible. Especially, Rohit Sharma was in no mood to defend. He scored a quick-fire 31 runs off just 20 deliveries and hit a wonderful six of Matt Kuhnemann before falling prey to an unfortunate mix-up leading to his run out.

Virat Kohli's luck betrays him again

This brought Virat Kohli out into the crease. He carried on from where Rohit left and showed intent from ball one. Virat looked assured with his footwork and played decisive shots taking India closer to victory. But just when it looked like that Kohli will steer India home along with Pujara, the great man succumbed to Todd Murphy. Kohli departed after scoring 20 runs off 31 balls, being stumped for the first time in his Test career.

Pujara and Bharat steer India home

While all this was happening at one end Cheteshwar Pujara (31 off 74) was going on undeterred. Shreyas Iyer (12 off 10) joined him in the middle after Kohli's demise but fell quickly in an attempt to score quick runs. Srikar Bharat (23 off 22) came out after this and played an effective cameo to steer India home.

Ultimately India won the match by six wickets and took an undefeatable lead in the series of 2-0.  This win has also ensured that India will retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy, whatever the result of the upcoming matches is. India also became the first team to retain the trophy four times in a row.

The action of the series will now shift to Indore for the third Test from 1st March. While India will be looking to win that match and book their berth in the WTC finals, Australia will try and put up a better cricketing performance at the least.
