The handshake row that started in the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 continued in the ongoing Women’s World Cup game between India, and Pakistan as Harmanpreet Kaur, the India skipper, followed Suryakumar Yadav’s footsteps and snubbed the Women in Green as there was no handshake after India clinched their second successive win.
The Asia Cup tournament will forever be remembered, not for its quality of matches, but for all the drama that happened in the India-Pakistan matches, and the same drama followed in the World Cup as the two teams ignored each other during the toss as well.
With the last ball of the match being delivered, the Indian side celebrated their triumphal win, as they neglected the Pakistan team and walked straight past them, showing solidarity with the Men’s team.
As history suggests, the matter could escalate if the Pakistan team management decides to lodge a complaint against the Indian side.
How Suryakumar Yadav ignited the handshake row
With the Pahalgam terror attack taking place in April 2025, the Indian men’s team made their stance clear, as even before the Asia Cup commenced, they decided not to shake hands with Pakistan players. In the group stage match, SKY finished the match with a six and walked past the Pakistan players as the Men in Blue closed their dressing room door.
This infuriated the Pakistan side as they filed a complaint against match referee, Andy Pycroft, for not maintaining the Code of Conduct. The drama continued as India once again snubbed Pakistan in the Super 4 match, and the trend continued in the finale as well. Hence, it seems the same trend is being followed by the Women's team with the two sides neglecting each other in the World Cup game.
