Fifties from Buttler, Brook and Moeen help England post 342-7 on board

At one time, England were reeling for 82-3, but middle-order exploits let the Three Lions revive from there on. Jos Buttler's hung ho of an innings - 94* off 82 balls - helped them post a mammoth total of 342 for 7.

Earlier in the day, South Africa used the morning conditions to their advantage and made the ball talk off the deck.

Last game's centurion Jason Roy fell prey to Lungi Ngidi's nip-backer on 9, and Dawid Malan was adjourned lbw to a Wayne Paynell's delivery. Then, after a fighting 32-ball 20, Ben Duckett miscued a heave Keshav Maharaj to long-on.

Although, from there on, the emerging Harry Brook and the English skipper took the duty of bringing their innings on track. During his time on the crease, Brook was flawless, but he fell 20 runs shy off his maiden ODI century.

After Brook's march back to the hut, Buttler got engaged to Moeen Ali in the middle. The Proteas had no clue on how to operate against the Englishmen, as the experienced duo just piled on the runs in the latter half of the innings.

But Moeen dragged one onto the stumps to be dismissed on 51 in the 44th. However, the English captain got the charge after that.

Buttler accelerated after his half-century, and he was cruising to go past the three-figure at one moment; however, he allowed Sam Curran to have a blast in the death overs, helping England post 342-7 after their 50 overs.

The South Africans already have a lead in the series, and they have the chance to make it 2-nil, but this daunting total against the English bowling would be extremely tricky.
