Daryl Mitchell won't play vs Bangladesh [Source: AP]
In a significant development, New Zealand have won the toss and opted to bowl first in their second group-stage match of the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh. At toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner stated that the BlackCaps would bowl in order to capitalise on the playing conditions in Rawalpindi.
Why NZ Have Excluded Daryl Mitchell?
Daryl Mitchell has been an integral member of New Zealand's batting unit in the middle order. However, in the first game against Pakistan, Mitchell was dismissed for ten runs.
Nevertheless, his ordinary performance in the tournament opener has nothing to do with his exclusion from today's clash. As skipper Santner confirmed, Mitchell is unwell and hence he has been replaced by Rachin Ravindra in the lineup.
So, the Kiwis will heavily rely on Conway, Will Young and Ravindra to give them a solid start in this match. Meanwhile, the middle-order will revolve around former captain Kane Williamson, who will shoulder New Zealand's core with Glenn Phillips and the in-form Tom Latham.
On the other hand, captain Santner will lead New Zealand's bowling unit with Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson and William O'Rourke.
