On crucial Day 5 of the first Test in the Indian tour of England 2025 at Headingley, the home team is taking a strog hold of the momentum, courtesy of their opening duo's solid batting. The Indian bowling attack has lacked edge, relying too heavily on their trump card, Jasprit Bumrah.
Since the first innings of the game, the other two wheels of the Indian pace attack - Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna earned slack from fans and experts due to the lack of potency in their bowling. The experts felt that only when Bumrah was bowling did it look like something out of the ordinary might happen; the other two looked flat and clueless.
England Had A Competitive Total To Chase Down
In the second innings, India scored 364 runs on the board courtesy of centuries by KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. As a result of the score posted by India, England had been tasked with chasing down 371 runs in the last innings of the game.
Shubman Gill would have hoped for a couple of wickets to set the match up. Jasprit Bumrah, as usual, bowled a brilliant spell to start with but failed to pick up wickets. Mohammed Siraj also bowled decently, but Krishna looked flat and lacked the edge once more.
Gill Inspires His Bowlers With 'Unity And Diversity' Motto
When Siraj and Krishna were bowling in tandem, the Indian skipper Gill, was caught on the stump mic saying - "Ek taraf Mohammad hain, doosre taraf Krishna. Dono tabahi macha dege". Within a short time, the video of this incident went viral on social media.
The Indian fand were quick to catch on to the clever wordplay of Gill. By using the religious reference, the skipper tried to inspire his two bowlers to bring out their best. It also brought out the essence of Indian culture, which is the flag bearer of - Unity in diversity. However, the pep talk by Gill did not have much effect on the bowler as they failed to break the opening stand between Crawley and Duckett.
