Dom Sibley Registers The Slowest Hundred In Championship's History As Surrey Chased 501 Runs

England Test opener Dominic Sibley scripted history on Wednesday as he grinded out the slowest century (140 off 415 deliveries) against Kent to help Surrey overhaul a record 4th innings target of 501.

Sibley's nine-hour marathon ensured that he registered the slowest ton in terms of deliveries faced (368) and minutes spent at the crease (502).

The English opener proved to be the fulcrum of Surrey's batting, around which the likes of Jamie Smith and Ben Foakes added the necessary impetus to the innings.

The right-hander dug deep into the massive reservoirs of his patience and defiance as he blunted the helpless Kent attack into submission on what was a pretty placid surface.

Smith, in particular, was at his brutal best as he smashed the hell out of Kent's bowling unit to register a whirlwind 77-ball 114.

His partnership with Sibley gave Surrey the platform, on which the latter and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes (124 off 211 deliveries) cashed in to take the defending champions to an unlikely and historic win as Surrey chased down the target of 501 runs in the Division 1 fixture of County Championship 2023 against Kent.

Sibley remained unbeaten in the end on 140* (off 415 deliveries).
