NZ vs IND | Bilateral series require more context: Kane Williamson

After missing the 3rd T20I due to an already-scheduled medical appointment, Kane Williamson has returned to lead the Black Caps in the three-match ODI series against touring India.

The Kiwi skipper hasn't been top of his form in the recent past, and the One-Day format would be the best chance for him to find his old self. However, Williamson hasn't scored an ODI hundred in the last three years. Moreover, he has just a single 50+ score in the last 11 innings.

"After a large volume of T20 cricket, the focus naturally shifts to the next one i.e. the ODI tournament," the New Zealand captain stated in the pre-series press conference.

The 32-year-old also shared his piece of mind over the debate regarding the future of ODI cricket.

"It was unfortunate to see, but it also shows the volume of cricket that's being held. Because no doubt the ICC tournaments are incredibly popular and there has been a lot of cricket on. They (Australia) also had a World Cup on. So, there was a lot on in their country too.

"So, we must ensure there is a lot more context as possible in games, especially the bilateral series. It will settle somewhere. I don't know what it will look like, but there are always conversations about trying to make it more appealing in any context like rule change etc."

In modern cricket, there is already a long-running debate regarding the future of One-Day cricket as the format is becoming somewhat boring to the audience - as a result, the crowd size has drastically nosedived.
