Hobart Hurricanes jumped up to sixth spot in this year’s BBL 2022-23 campaign, after languishing at the bottom of the points table prior to their recent match. The Matthew Wade’s troops overcame the Adelaide Strikers’ challenge in Hobart, after being put into field first.

The hosts openers, Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott, were the stars of a clinical run-chase against the Strikers, as they chased down their 178-run task with ease.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Adelaide Strikers charted 177-6 off their 20 overs. Batting barbarian Chris Lynn at number three clubbed a boundary-laden 87 from 58 deliveries, while opener Matthew Short and Colin de Grandhomme chipped in with crucial 30s in the middle.

Hurricanes’ Nathan Ellis claimed two wickets in his expensive spell, while a wicket each was collected by Patrick Dooley, Riley Meredith and Mitchell Owen.

The hosts responded well right from the outset, with openers Jewell and McDermott slamming sparkling half-centuries at the top. The chase, thereafter, was anchored by D’Arcy Short and Tim David as the Hobart Hurricanes claimed their win more than two overs to spare.

Brief scores:

Adelaide Strikers: 177-6 (20)

Chris Lynn 87 (58), Matthew Short 38 (26)

Nathan Ellis 2-39, Mitchell Owen 1-17

Hobart Hurricanes: 178-3 (17.2)

Caleb Jewell 54 (28), Ben McDermott 53 (33)

Peter Siddle 1-21, Rashid Khan 1-43
