Sam Harper slammed a marvellous 48-ball 89 and helped his side register a crucial victory against Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday.

Renegades' batting has been put under scrutiny in the ongoing tournament, but they responded in style and achieved the target of 163 with 11 balls to spare.

How things panned out

Batting first, Hobart Hurricanes started on an aggressive note, with Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott in some mood. Interestingly the top three batters got an aggressive start, but failed to convert it into a big total.

The opening duo added 49 for the first wicket and laid a strong foundation for the other batters. Jewell was the first man to go as he tries to slice the back of a length ball past the in-field and found the man at backward point.

Two overs late, McDermott followed his opening partner and Renegades tightened the screws on the scoring rate.

The team which scored nearly 230 runs in their last game, struggled for runs as Matthew Wade (20), Zak Crawley (13), and Tim David (9) all departed cheaply. It was the late onslaught from the unlikely Faheem Ashraf (26 off 17) which propelled Hurricanes to a respectable 162 for 8.

Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 2-20 of 4 overs.

Early in the chase, Renegades lost the wicket of Marcus Harris, but Martin Guptill finally came good for his side and took the aggressive path with a quick-fire 19-ball 36. He was caught at short fine leg, but by the time Guptill went back, Renegades had got the start they needed.

Sam Harper took over from them and played one of the finest innings of the tournament. Hurricanes bowling attack was under pressure after what happened against the Strikers, and Harper took full advantage of it.

He blasted seven sixes, en-route a blistering 89. By the time Harper was sent packing by Nathan Ellis, Renegades were on the touching distance of the target, and Jonathan Wells (22) made sure that the red army reach the target comfortably.
