Match 38 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23 witnessed the Melbourne Stars display a dominant performance against their opponents the Adelaide Strikers, winning the encounter by nine wickets.

Coulter-Nile's three-wicket haul cripples Strikers

Asked to bat first, Liam Hatcher made early in-roads into the Strikers' lineup, removing Matthew Short and Chris Lynn quickly. Adam Zampa made quick work of Ryan Gibson, cleaning up the batter for 10.

At the halfway mark, Adelaide were 61 for 4, after losing Thomas Kelly to Nathan Coulter-Nile. The pair of Adam Hose and Harry Nielsen consolidated a faltering inning and added 29 for the fifth wicket.

Coulter-Nile broke a blossoming partnership, nabbing Hose for 21.

He claimed his third and final wicket in the form of Ben Manenti, digging the Strikers into the deep hole even further.

Zampa got the better of Nielsen for 40, who looked to take the game away from the Stars' hand.  Adelaide folded for 108, after losing the final three wickets within four runs.

Joe Clarke and Thomas Rogers gave the Stars a brisk start, adding 40 runs in the first four overs. Clarke did receive a reprieve on 18 after Lynn dropped a simple catch in the third-man region. The pair brought up their 50-run stand in no time, downing the target to below 60. The partnership (77) came to a screeching end after Clarke was run out attempting a non-existent single for 35.

Meanwhile, Rogers brought up his first-ever BBL fifty, as the Stars crossed the 100-run mark. Hilton Cartwright (16) struck the winning boundary as the Stars won the match by nine wickets, with Rogers top-scoring with an unbeaten 50*.

With the win, Melbourne moved into seventh position with six points, while Adelaide remained on third place in the BBL 12 table.
