One of England's Test batting mainstays, Joe Root, will be seen in action in the upcoming International League T20 (ILT20) playing for the Dubai Capitals franchise. Root, known for textbook cricket, hopes that his new T20 stint will help improve his white-ball skills.

The 32-year-old has played 158 ODIs and scored 6,207 runs at an average of 50.05. The Yorkshire batter was purchased by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 mini-auction last month.

As quoted by PTI, Root spoke about using T20s to develop his ODI batting while keeping the World Cup 2023 in mind.

Here's what Root said

"I have a lot of experience in playing 50-over cricket now. I have got a good understanding of how to play in ODIs. I really want to develop my white-ball game further and if there is anything that I can add to my 50-over game, it will come from playing more T20 cricket and putting myself in situations I have not found myself frequently during the course of my career so far,"

Root further stated that he was looking forward to utilizing his experience for the Capitals and guiding them to wins in the upcoming season.

The Capitals will take on the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the opening match of ILT20 on January 13.
