The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is underway at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with Pakistan opting to bat first. The arch-rivals are battling for crucial points in Group A, and early exchanges have already added to the drama of the contest.

Pakistan's star opener Babar Azam, who was expected to anchor the innings, failed to convert his promising start. After scoring 23 runs off 26 balls, the right-handed batter fell to Hardik Pandya in the ninth over. In the second ball of the ninth over, Babar attempted a shot off a length delivery but ended up edging it to KL Rahul behind the stumps, giving India a breakthrough at 41/1.

Table - Babar Azam vs Hardik Pandya in ODIs

Babar Azam’s struggle against Hardik Pandya in ODIs continued with this dismissal. In seven innings against Pandya, the Pakistan captain has now scored 75 runs off 71 balls while getting dismissed twice. The Indian all-rounder has managed to keep Babar in check, preventing him from playing freely against his pace and variations.

India make early inroads

At the time of writing, Pakistan is struggling at 55/2 after eleven overs. Imam-ul-Haq is holding one end with 10 runs off 24 balls, while Saud Shakeel has just arrived at the crease. India’s bowlers have kept the scoring rate in check, with Hardik Pandya picking up the only wicket so far.

Meanwhile, India is yet to face another setback as Mohammed Shami earlier in the match went out of the field with visible pain in his leg. Though he returned back to the field he has not been handed the ball yet. Shami was technically seen out of rhythm as he bowled a wayward over in the first spell with five wides which is unusual for the veteran pacer.

Nevertheless, with Pakistan looking to rebuild after losing the top-order, all eyes will be on their middle order to counter India’s disciplined bowling attack.
