Australia suffered one of their lowest Test innings totals in the West Indies since the turn of the century, folding for just 225 runs on Day 1 of the third Test at Sabina Park, Kingston. The hosts then cautiously reached 16/1 at Stumps, still trailing by 209 runs.
The Australian batting effort was riddled with inconsistencies as no batter managed to convert their start into a big score. Despite handy contributions from Steve Smith (48) and Cameron Green (46), the visitors were unable to build any lasting partnerships, eventually getting bowled out inside 71 overs.
Australia's Struggle Evident In New Low At Kingston
Australia's total of 225 at Sabina Park now ranks among the five lowest innings totals for Australia in Tests played in the West Indies since 2000.
- 165 all out at Kingston (2008)
- 180 all out at Bridgetown (2025)
- 225 all out at Kingston (2025) (This Test)*
- 240 all out at St John’s (2003)
- 243 all out at St George’s (2025)
Earlier in this series, the Aussies were bowled out for 180 in the first Test at Bridgetown and for 243 in the second at St George’s, showing a worrying trend of batting collapses on Caribbean soil during this tour.
West Indies Clears Out The Aussies On Day 1
Meanwhile, on Day 1 at Kingston, Shamar Joseph was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, scalping 4/33 with his deadly pace, while Jayden Seales (3/59) and Justin Greaves (3/56) also dismantled the Australian lineup with regular breakthroughs. From 129/3 at one stage, the visitors lost their final 7 wickets for just 96 runs.
In reply, the West Indies got off to a tentative start, ending the day on 16/1 in 9 overs. Mitchell Starc struck early by dismissing Kevlon Anderson for 3. Brandon King (8) and skipper Roston Chase (3) will resume on Day 2, looking to build a more solid platform after another promising day for the hosts.
