Visiting pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep sparked a late Indian fightback on Day 5 of the Brisbane Test against Australia. Regardless, the two teams ended up splitting honours after rains washed away a major chunk of yet another day.

Here’s the timeline of how AUS vs IND panned out in Brisbane:

AUS vs IND Highlights: Travis Head Gets Akash Deep To Wrap Up Indian Innings

Overnight tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep survived the initial few overs of the fifth morning to add a few more runs to the Indian total. Deep, batting on 31, in a bid to draw a forward defense off part-timer Travis Head, was out stumped by Alex Carey for a swift 31.

With Team India all out for 260 in 78.5 overs, hosts Australia walked away with a huge 185-run first innings lead.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Bumrah, Akash Deep Excel With The New Ball

Indian paceman Jasprit Bumrah jolted Australia’s top-order with the key early wickets of opener Uman Khawaja and number three Marnus Labuschagne. Equally frugal with the new ball, Akash Deep dismissed Nathan McSweeney and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in successive overs as Australia’s top-order crashed to 28-4 within the first 10 overs of the innings.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Mohammed Siraj Gets Into The Act

Mohammed Siraj had Australian batting juggernaut Steve Smith caught down the leg side by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for just four as the hosts’ troubles worsened at 33-5. Travis Head and Alex Carey, centurion and half-centurion of the first innings, partnered up for the best stand of the day with mere 27 runs to take Australia to 60 by 14 overs.

At a time when Head reached 17* off 18, the elegant left-hander top-edged one towards Pant to hand a raging Siraj his second wicket of the innings. Carey and captain Pat Cummins added attacking 20s each from their ends until the latter was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah (3-18). Cummins’ dismissal also coincided with the Australian declaration at 89-7 in 18 overs to set India a 275-run target within the minimal time period.

As it turned out, the Indian innings lasted just two wicketless overs as both captains shook hands and walked away with a rain-induced draw at The Gabba.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series locked at 1-1, the two Test titans will now head to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the all-important fourth match from December 26 onwards.
