During the rain-affected second T20I t encounter against Bangladesh in Sylhet, the Afghanistan team faced an off-field plight. The visiting team's head coach, Jonathan Trott and player Azmatullah Omarzai were penalised for separate instances of unsporting behaviour.

Trott and Omarzai sanctioned for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

The game saw Afghanistan being invited to bat first, but intermittent rain interruptions shortened the match to 17 overs. Expressing dissatisfaction about the protracted delay in resumption due to an umpire inspection, Trott faced a sanction of 15 per cent of his match fees for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct.

Omarzai ran afoul of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This infraction pertains to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match." Omarzai's contentious behaviour arose in the 15th over of the chase, where he engaged in a fiery send-off post dismissing Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy.

Besides the fiscal sanctions, Trott and Omarzai were also handed one demerit point each, marking their first offence within a two-year span. Both the coach and the player acknowledged the penalties issued by Match Referee Neeyamur Rashid, rendering a formal hearing unnecessary.

Despite the turmoil, Bangladesh proved their mettle on the field as they successfully hunted down a target of 117 runs with six wickets and five balls to spare. Litton Das top-scored with 35 off 36 balls, whereas Afif Hossain chipped in with 24 off 20 deliveries.

The win in the T20I series allowed them to put the disappointment of their 2-1 loss in the ODI series behind, as they completed a 2-0 whitewash over the Rashid Khan led side.
