Punjab Kings came close to end their 18-years-long trophy drought but fell short of six runs in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer and his men fought hard but couldn't seal the win for his side. Notably, RCB, batting first, put 190 runs on the board, but the Kings failed to chase down the second-joint highest successful run-chase in IPL history.
Nonetheless, the IPL governing body acknowledged Punjab Kings' effort and introduced a new shield in the league that was presented to the runners-up.
Punjab Kings Take Home 12.50 Crore Prize Money
Despite the defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL final, the Kings will take home 12.50 crore prize money, which is given to the runners-up in IPL. Following the defeat, Shreyas Iyer spoke highly about his team and praised the boys for their efforts.
"Yes absolutely. Dejected to be honest but the way boys came up to the occasion was commendable. Credit to the entire management, support staff and each and every individual who participated in contributing for the team. Also credit to the owners who always supported us," remarked Iyer after the defeat.
Iyer also remarked that the target could have been chased and the bowlers did well. Talking about the skipper, Shreyas Iyer had a great season with the bat but failed in the final as he could only score 1 (2) in the crucial run-chase. Further, the winners of the tournament, which were RCB were handed a 20 crore prize money alongside the prestigious trophy.
