What a rollercoaster of a match we've just witnessed! The Punjab Kings almost pulled off a miraculous victory from the jaws of defeat, but it was the Mumbai Indians who kept their cool and clinched the win by a nail-biting 9-run margin.

Mumbai Indians set a challenging target of 192/7 after being put in to bat first. Stellar performances from Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma powered their innings, despite the early loss of Ishan Kishan.

Punjab Kings' chase began on a disastrous note against the lethal bowling of Gerald Coetzee and Jasprit Bumrah, stumbling to 14/4 in the blink of an eye. Shashank Singh and Harpreet Singh Bhatia then staged a valiant recovery with a 35-run partnership, but Mumbai's Shreyas Gopal and Bumrah struck timely blows.

Ashutosh Sharma fought a lone battle, supported briefly by Shashank Singh, before Bumrah's return ended their resistance, ultimately sealing Mumbai's hard-fought victory.

It was not be though, as Sam Curran and Harshal Patel bowled quite well at the death and made sure that MI do not get that late flourish.

Talking about the innings, it started with an early wicket of Ishan Kishan, but SKY joined Rohit Sharma and the duo stitched a 81-run stand before Sam Curran provided an important breakthrough for Punjab Kings. Things slowed down a bit after Rohit's dismissal and though SKY hit some of his trademark shots, in his 78 off 53 balls, MI just could not deliver big finishing touches with Punjab bowlers showing great heart at the death.

The target is still a good one, and Punjab Kings need to start well, if they want to get to halt their losing run in this 17th edition of IPL 2024.

The Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians have not played like five-time champions so far, and just like Mumbai Indians, they have been able to notch up only two wins out of the six they have played. They are a team full of superstars with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Bumrah to name a few, but have not clicked as unit and that led to their downfall.

The bowling, especially, death bowling has been a worry and Hardik Pandya's captaincy has also come under some intense scrutiny. They are known to be slow-starters though, and you never know, MI may end up playing a perfect game here!

Punjab Kings are in the middle of yet another disappointing season and need to get their house in order before it all gets too late for them. They have won just two games of the six played so far and with Shikhar Dhawan also not available, the big guns in their side need to take more responsibility.

Sam Curran will be leading them in today's game and he along with the likes of Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma and Bairstow need to fire with the bat. Their bowling has been decent, but they can do better at the death and it would be interesting to see how they tackle the might of MI batting at Mullanpur.
