That’s it. The Bangladesh Women keep themselves alive in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. After losing their opening game against the Sri Lanka Women, they have bounced back to win the next and stay alive in the competition. They beat the Thailand Women convincingly by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare.

Chasing 97, Dilara Akter gave the Bangladesh Women a solid start. She played some good shots at the top of the order but Murshida Khatun at the other end really struggled to get going. The pair put 24 for the first wicket before a mix-up in the middle ended Dilara’s stay at the crease. She departed on 17. After her dismissal, Murshida stepped on the accelerator and played some outstanding strokes.

Ishma Tanjim had walked out to bat at number three and she supported Murshida nicely. Both stitched a 50-run between them. Thai skipper Thipatcha Puttawong cleaned up Tanjim on 16 to break the 60-run stand. Murshida brought up her fifty off 54 balls but fell on the very next ball. Ritu Moni and Rumana Ahmed remained unbeaten on nine and five respectively to take Bangladesh Women across the line in the 18th over.

Puttawong and Phannita Maya picked up two wickets each but there weren't enough runs on the board to defend.

A brilliant bowling display by Bangladesh Women as they restricted Thailand Women to a paltry 96/9 in 20 overs. 

After deciding to bat first, Nattaya Boochatham and Aphisara Suwanchonrathi added 26 runs for the first wicket for Thailand Women, with the latter contributing only 6 runs. Thailand Women's batters looked sluggish in the middle and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Boochatham held her wicket from one end and was the lone warrior for the Thai side, contributing 40 runs off 41 balls. 

Besides Boochatham, Suleeporn Laomi (17) and Rosenan Kanoh (13*) were the only other batters to score in double digits, as the scoreboard painted a bleak picture. 

Rabeya Khan shone with the ball for Bangladesh, grabbing four wickets, while Sabikun Nahar and Ritu Moni contributed a couple of wickets each to Thailand's downfall.

It's the evening game double-header day in the Women's Asia Cup 2024. Bangladesh Women face Thailand Women in a Group B encounter at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla, on Monday (July 22).
